grannies

Heart: all

... don't you love 'em? Yep, the human kind are nice too!

A little warning though: They're all unblocked!

Heart: none. Hate: none.

Of course, I mean the good old granny square. What's that? Boring, you say? No way! When I first started crocheting, about 4 years ago, I came across Sarah London's blog and was in awe of the colour, the textures and techniques that she uses. Gone were my initial thoughts of grannies being boring! And after hooking a few grannies myself, they are a favourite. They can be used in so many ways and can send out various mood vibes based on the colours you choose to use.

Heart: none. Hate: top left.

I hooked up a few recently for Crochet-a-Rainbow and realised how I love certain colour combos and HATE others.

Heart: lower right. Hate: top left.

Heart: all.

I had planned to share them here and then today, I saw that Sarah's having a Granny Square Love Blog Book Tour! Isn't that exciting! I'm looking forward to the tour. She has a book trailer AND a giveaway too!

Heart: top left. Hate: none.

I love that she says "Begin your day with a blank canvas and ensure to saturate it with colour! Scandalous or safe the colour choice is entirely yours."

Thank you to all of you that commented on:
a) the dress - tutorial coming up in sha Allah!
b) the sourdough bread - it didn't rise as much as the first one (which was white). I probably tried to rush it along. Our loaf was gone in a flash though!

i'm excited (again)

We're due to travel to the Far East in sha Allah! We're all excited! Before heading off, another granny blanket was on the hook. This time, a chunky one.

It was really chunky and I had to kill the acrylic with a steam iron! I hope it will keep a baby warm in southern hemispheric winter.

The pictures don't do justice to the intensity of the colour. The is one of the brightest blankets I've hooked up!

Do you love granny squares? Sucrette's having a Giant Granny Challenge. Join in!

my creative space - hook some click some

It's been a while since I've joined in but here we are. Need to rush. I have a BUSY BUSY BUSY weekend! But thought I'd stop by and give you a peek of what I've been doing.

Some of this

Almost done.

Now the slightly tedious task of weaving in the ends (I haven't learnt my lesson!), washing the blanket and blocking it.

I've also been doing a bit of digital art.

I've really enjoyed playing around with an idea that I had. Finished project for a charity event, coming up soon in sha Allah.

Check out more creative spaces here!

crochet a rainbow

I really didn't mean to leave you with that Curly Scarf for so long! I appreciate the comments! I'm still around. And still crocheting. Even though life has it's way of flipping things upside down a bit, doesn't it.

Among other things, just when I thought that the sun was coming out, the skies turned grey. There was heavy rain and Jeddah was flooded in many areas.

I've been crocheting some colour in to my life and now I'm joining in here to help crochet a rainbow for Australian flood victims. Do join in!

granny striping - done!

Alhamdulillah it's done and finished!  Doesn't it feel good when a project is complete?  I'm SO glad it's done and that my 7 year old is happy with it AND using it!

They were totally his choice of colours!

And finished with a crab stitch edging.  That's just a round of single crochets, backwards!

I haven't been able to get online much lately.  But now that I can and I'm really not sure how long I'll be able to, I thought I better stick this post in!  Yes, there are a bunch of other things going on, I'm a little under the weather too and there are a bunch of other wips to finish off.  But I think I'll take it a step at a time and just visit my happy place a bit.

Here's the Granny Stripe Pattern.

my creative space ...

I've been carrying on with the granny-stripes BUT I've run out of turquoise!!! So, it's on hold!

Something new ...

Could it be some sort of edging?

A belt?

What do you think?

And some more teeny weeny crochet ...

By the way, I ended up teaming my last hexagon sweater with this little hat.

I love the swirly ribbing!

creativity

I wasn't around for last Thursday's creative space as I was in Makkah.

Although it's about 45 minutes away, this time we decided to stay for the weekend. And even though it was a more spiritual one, my weekend wasn't lacking in creativity.

Geometric patterns are everywhere!

Some other things have been going on too.

Tiny crochet.

And with the new, some old crochet is nearly finished!

I must add that I've gained a great deal from Kirsty's hosting My Creative Space.  I've gotten to know a load of creative people with some beautifully inspiring projects, from all over the world!
And speaking of creativity, perhaps a creativity bootcamp is what a lot of us need.  I think it should be a great opportunity.  It's an intensive e-course, from June 6th to 18th, coached by  Maegan AND it's free!!!  I think the only problem I'll have is chosing a medium!  Bootcamps are supposed to be challenging aren't they? So, I think I'll go with something a bit different ...

colour ... after a grey patch

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

I am so touched by the gesture of a lovely blogging sister!  She has featured my crochet work on one of her beautiful blogs

Speaking of crochet, I have some to share with you.  I was away from blogging for a while as my grandmother passed away two weeks ago.

Soon after, I continued an old, monochrome crochet project.  But I feel that crocheting too much of one colour pulls me to more colourful crochet.  Firstly though, I managed to finish off another old project.  Do you remember all those squares I used to blog (a bit too much) about?  Yes, there were those greeny bluey ones that became a blanket/throw.

There were a load more of the crazy, whacky colours though, and they became this:

One crazy coloured blanket or throw!

I also had yet another girly crochet request: something to cover this scruffy-topped,  bedside table

There was a pattern I'd been wanting to try out for AGES.  Others have done it too.  So I thought I'd use it for this.

Now it sits happily in the newly painted, girly-pink, girls' bedroom!

And because I can't JUST be working on old projects like this

here's something new.

Colours that I've been wanting to put together for a while and a Sarah London pattern I've been after for a longer while.
